Description

so here it is.. this one took me forever to draw, and my already irked hand got a work out that made it pretty sore after hours of drawing, but I finally have it done! hope you all like, even though it's not perfect, and it could be better.

first off: a little description of the ship itself. the Shogunate's ship of the line models have a very unique feature, not present in most other ships of its class, which is a pair of forward-facing cannons, located in the "Pillboxes" (basically an out-of-ground bunker) on either side of the dragon headed prow (sorry if that ship term is incorrect, but that is the frontmost point on the ship, with the long post extending out from the dragon's head) which allows it to do some damage even when chasing an enemy ship, though it is still necessary in combat to get along side the enemy ship for real sustained naval combat. in addition to this, the "Keep" looking structure at the back houses the middle floor room full of sniper units, for picking off crew, or firing rockets to do more damage to an enemy ship, and likely set it aflame. above this, just under the roof, is a small room where lookouts can gaze out back over the rear of the ship, or out the front, over the deck. and lastly, as you can see, the style of the structures on the deck are based off of castles, and castle grounds, as since the previous types of ships used by Japan earlier on, known as Atakebune were basically floating castles, I basically transferred this concept aesthetically into this ship. which gives it more of a Japanese look. one last note, you can see nobori flags at the back of the ship, behind the "keep" as well as cloth walls on the edge of the deck, next to the low wall running along the deck's edge, and alongside the "keep".

also: a little alternate history for some background on it:

after the period known as the Sengoku Jidai, the newly united Japan did not enter isolation, instead it entered a period of slightly restricted access by foreigners, though the British and Dutch gained increasingly looser restriction here, and eventually, due to a war brought on by Spanish aggression, Spaniards were the only ones banned from setting foot in Japan, while British and Dutch continually made trade trips to the land of the Rising Sun, the only restriction left on them became a religious one, not permitting priests to enter, based on the Shogun Tokugawa's caution over the matter. prior to the war with Spain, thanks to an increasingly popular trend of ship collecting by various Japanese influential, Japan came to produce its own variation of the European ships, as it had done with guns not so long ago before, adding a few features as well. upon the advent of war with Spain, the Spanish were beaten back, and the famed Date Masamune, weary of peace in Japan, using his previously acquired status as an admiral and took the fight to Spain, eventually seizing the Philippines, officially annexing the islands for the Shogunate. the renowned 'One Eyed Dragon' would go on to gain more fame as the Shogunate colonized and conquered around the Pacific.

that's about all of it. hope you all enjoy! I worked at this pretty hard :p
